#NYFW Street Style Trend Report | Fall 2017

MappCraft | #NYFW Street Style Trend Report Fall 2017

Runway to...

Last weekend I was lucky enough to snag access to half a dozen S/S 2018 shows during the first two days of New York Fashion Week.

I'll cut to the chase on Spring/Summer 2018 - Fuchsia. Power Suits. Sneakers with Power Suits.

...Real Way

The most trend-influential aspect of NYFW is not what the models are wearing on the runway - it's what the fashion people wear to watch. Armed with a smart phone and a keen eye, I shamelessly stole shots of stylish people all over the city.

Here are my top 6 Fall 2017 street style trends and my opinion on how (or if) you should incorporate them into your wardrobe.

Top 6 #NYFW Fall 2017 Street Style Trends

Fall 2017 Street Style Trend #1: Polka Dots

MappCraft | #NYFW Street Style Trend Report Fall 2017 - Polka Dots

Polka Dots - No. or Go!

Style Archetype: Classically Chic

Age Limit: All ages depending on scale - large dots can read juvenile on mature women

Spend, Save or Shop Your Closet: Shop your closet! I guarantee you own something with dots already. Pull it out and wear it with white sneakers. Sorted.

Fall 2017 Street Style Trend #2: Moto Jacket

MappCraft | #NYFW Street Style Trend Report Fall 2017 - Moto Jacket

Moto Jacket - No. or Go!

Style Archetype: Edgy

Age Limit: Depends on your vibe. If you're thinking of trying this look for the first time and you aren't inherently edgy, age limit is 35. If you've been edgy #AF since Woodstock, wear a moto jacket to your funeral.

Spend, Save or Shop Your Closet: Edgy #AF? Spend. Edgy EH? Save.

Fall 2017 Street Style Trend #3: Throw Back Athleisure

MappCraft | #NYFW Street Style Trend Report Fall 2017 - Throwback Athleisure

Style Archetype: Athleisure

Age Limit: Interprative '90s nostalgia is best left for those too young to remember Yo! MTV Raps. If you rocked Adidas track pants and Fila with the straps to Maury High School in 1992, opt to appease your inner 14-year old in low profile New Balance instead.

Fall 2017 Street Style Trend #4: Grunge

MappCraft | #NYFW Street Style Trend Report Fall 2017 - Grunge

Grunge - No. or Go!

Style Archetype: Edgy, Editorial Eclectic

Age Limit: If you're over 22 you cannot wear dirt as a fashion statement. I'm about 15 minutes away from being too old to wear a flannel shirt as a dress.

Fall 2017 Street Style Trend #5: Red Booties

MappCraft | #NYFW Street Style Trend Report Fall 2017 - Red Ankle Boots

Red Booties - No. or Go!

Style Archetype: Edgy, Editorial Eclectic, Classically Chic

Age Limit: All ages.

Spend, Save or Shop Your Closet: Shop your closet. The red footwear trend isn't limited to ankle boots. In fact, Tiny Closet, Tons of Style® FB group member Courtney was ahead of the curve today in her cherry red ballet flats. If you don't already own red shoes, invest in a pair you'll keep in your holiday capsule for years.

Fall 2017 Street Style Trend #6: Houndstooth Blazer

MappCraft | #NYFW Street Style Trend Report Fall 2017 - Houndstooth Blazer

Houndstooth Jacket - No. or Go!

Style Archetype: Classically Chic, Minimalist

Age Limit: All ages.

Spend, Save or Shop Your Closet: Another hot ticket you may already own - first, shop your closet. A boxy, double breasted power cut is the modern look for this classic jacket so before you invest in a 2017 version (worth it), scour thrift, vintage and consignment stores for the 1980s inspiration.
