Day 6️⃣ ✨ MINIMALista ❤️ Love Your 👓 Look 👗Challenge ✨

Let's recap: the MINIMALista Love Your Look Challenge (MLYLC) is a simple exercise to prepare you for adopting a MINIMALista lifestyle. By tracking and recording your clothing selections for two weeks, the MLYLC will reveal which of your garments you love and which are sucking up closet space.

Even though I've already embraced a capsule wardrobe philosophy, I am using the MLYLC to identify which winter garments to transition into my spring capsule collection and which style of garments I should invest in to fill in gaps.

What I wore:

  1. Base layer: Banana Republic fine rib tights
  2. Core: GAP sweater dress
  3. Accessories: South Moon Under Missoni-like infinity scarf; Stella & Dot Rebel pendant; Apple Watch
  4. Footwear: Loeffler Randall Matilide knee boots

Why:

Base layer: Banana Republic fine rib leggings. I'm back on my hosiery soap box today, ladies: MINIMAListas invest in 3 -4 quality pairs and replace only as necessarily. I bought these brownish tights in 2011 and they are literally the only pair I own that match the very random olive color of these Loeffler Randall boots (more on those later). Granted, they are getting a little long in the tooth and I definitely applied a generous spritz of (CIBU FINISTA FLEXIBLE FINISH) hairspray to my rear end to halt a run five years in the making. Still - five years is a respectable run to go with out one.  Well worth the $35.

MINIMAListas invest in HOSIERY

Core: This GAP sweater dress is a trickster. A rogue. A wildcard. It is tighter than I'd like, heavier than it appears and somewhat itchy. You could call this color OX BLOOD or MERLOT or MARSALA. Now I love to drink Pinot but I really don't like to wear it, which; incidentally, is why I don't sit next to my 18 month old at dinner anymore. It's just not my favorite apparel color. I bought the dress in early fall, specifically for a family photo shoot. Despite concerns I'd never wear it again, it earned a coveted spot in my fall/winter capsule because I vow to make only DELIBERATE shopping decisions. All that said, when I do end up wearing it (this is only the fourth time since October) I am pleasantly surprised at how good it looks.

MINIMAListas ROCK what they got

Accessories: This Missoni inspired infinity scarf was a birthday gift from my dear friend Crystal. She and I have dinner plans and despite all the blather that preceded this, the real reason I selected this entire outfit was to match a lovely gift from a person I love very much.

Accessories: Again with the Stella & Dot Rebel pendant! This combo is another illustration of the ole' scarf over pendant routine. I continue to work it because it works every time.

Footwear: Let me tell you a story about Loeffler Randall Matilde boots. This pair is a replacement for a pair I originally purchased at Neiman Marcus, with Crystal, in 2013 for $695. That pair was also olive but this fall, after several years with limited wear (because: olive) I had my cobbler dye them black for $50. Brilliant move! After that I wore those suckers like four times a week. One evening in December I left my yoga studio in a rush to bring Crystal chocolate (she's pregnant) and left the boots in the dressing room. Turns out the next day my yoga studio preformed a ruthless lost and found purge and donated them to Goodwill. I really loved those boots and I was intent on replacing them in BLACK. Problem was that the black pair was still $695 but the pair in olive were marked down to $209 (because: olive). I will dye them black again in fall for $50. Perhaps Crystal will come with me.

MINIMAListas know that every great outfit has a better STORY
